Description
The filbert is known about 2000 and won glory of the most valuable nut bearing plant which is cultivated in many countries of the world. Grow up a filbert in Turkey, Italy, Spain, France, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and in Russia - in the territory of Krasnodar Krai.

The filbert is a cultivar of a filbert. About 20 types of a filbert are known,
which are widespread in North America, East Asia, Europe, Asia Minor and Transcaucasia.

The filbert represents a bush or a small tree from 2 to 7 meters high with sprawling, flat and spherical krone. The main trunk of a filbert is, as a rule, not expressed. The bent numerous branches of a tree have the vertical or horizontal direction, and the lower branches often creep on a soil surface.

Bark of branches brownish-gray, smooth. Filbert leaves roundish or rounded ovoid, 6-12 cm long and 5-9 cm wide. Color of leaves dark green, opaque, and their surface slightly wrinkled. Leaves of a filbert are dismissed at the end of March - the beginning of April. The leaf fall begins with the middle of October and proceeds until the end of November. At filbert seedlings till 3 years the rod root develops, but then the powerful superficial root system is formed.

Filbert nuts on one or two, and sometimes on five, are put into the open light green fruit wrappers consisting of two rassechyonno-bladed leaflets. Length of a nut reaches 18 mm, and width of 13-15 mm. Depending on a filbert grade nuts happen an oval or round form in a firm brown shell.

The filbert is characterized by discrepancy of terms of a zatsvetaniye of man's and pistillate flowers at one individual. At one flowers man's inflorescences, and at others - female blossom earlier. Pollination cross and successful fructification is possible on condition of joint growth of man's and female bushes of a filbert.

The filbert is breed hygrophilous and shade-enduring and therefore its culture is possible only on condition of sufficient waterings on the shaded sites. On open solar glades leaves of a filbert burn slightly. Especially successfully the filbert grows on deep, rich with organic substances, friable soils and does not transfer the soil zasolyonny and boggy. In a wild look the filbert is widespread in the Caucasus, in the Crimea, on all Western Europe, except for northern part of Scandinavia and the South of the Iberian Peninsula. This plant seeds, layers and division of bushes breeds.
